Early voting in Texas for the Nov. 8 election runs from Monday, Oct. 24, through Friday, Nov. 4.

Voters will choose the next governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, land commissioner, agriculture commissioner and comptroller.

In addition, U.S. representatives, state senators, state representatives and members of the State Board of Education are up for election, as well as ballot propositions for local cities.

Here’s what you need to know to cast your ballot.

I’m not sure if I registered to vote. How do I check?

You can check your voter registration status through the Texas Secretary of State’s website or your county elections office:

Can I still vote if I have not registered?

No. Texas required voters to register by Oct. 11 to vote this election. Unlike Texas, 22 states and Washington, D.C. allow same-day registration, which allows eligible residents to vote and register and cast a ballot at the same time.

Can I vote by mail?

Maybe. Here’s how to find out if you’re eligible to vote by mail in Texas and how to request a mail-in ballot by Oct. 28.

What do I need to vote?

Voters will need an acceptable form of ID, including a Texas driver’s license, Texas identification card, state handgun license, U.S. military ID with photograph, U.S. citizenship certification with photograph, or U.S. passport.

When and where do I vote early?

That depends on where you live in North Texas. Voters can cast ballots at any early voting location in their county.
